Golf is a great game. There is nothing like it when everything is going good and you get on a roll. Every shot feels right before you hit it, and the line of every putt jumps out at you like it was painted on.
But those days are few and far between for most people. And putting is usually the culprit. How many strokes could you knock off your score if you never missed a putt inside of ten feet? Fact is, you will never make every putt you hit, but once you get inside of ten feet every putt you look at is one you should make.
Most people who have putting problems seem to suffer most when they are inside of that 10 foot range. Once there, the nature of the game changes entirely. It is literally no longer golf you are playing.
The biggest cause of missed putts is too much technical thought. Even though the club is different, the golfer generally has the same mindset he has with a driver in his hands as he does with the putter.
Success in short putting requires two things. You must start the ball off on the correct line and at the proper speed. How you do that is nowhere near as important as getting it done.
If you want to putt better starting right now, forget everything you think you know about how to make a putting stroke. Focus on the line and speed only. The stroke is so simple a child can make it, so why should you stress about it at the expanse of what really matters?

In this article I will give you some free golf tips that will help you to improve your game. I know many golfers who reach a certain level and can’t seam to progress any further. I have seen players hit a couple of good shots then a complete duff shot that just trickles of the tee.
For most golfers, just getting back to the basics can bring around a positive change in their swing. For some reason, we get to a stage in our game where we think we should be powering the ball 350 yards straight down the fairway. When this doesn’t happen, we maybe just try too hard, I know because it has happened to me. So I hope these free golf tips will improve your game - they have helped me out over the years.
Check Your Golf Equipment
Maybe you have been playing for a while or even a few years with the same golf equipment. It is amazing how many golfers are using the wrong clubs or golf balls for their game or physique. The worst thing you can do is play with clubs that are too short or long for you. If in doubt, get your local golf course pro to check what length of clubs is right for you.
The flex of the shaft also has to be of the correct stiffness for your swing speed. The more swing speed and therefore power you can produce, then the stiffer the club needs to be. For example, if you can generate a lot of power, you should use a stiff club shaft, whereas a senior golfer and some women will probably need a club with more flex to help generate the extra power.
For golf balls, you have to choose wisely; don’t be swayed by manufacturer’s hype. You don’t want to sacrifice control for distance, so if you still can’t hit consistent and accurate shots, don’t go for a distance ball. You could maybe try a two piece ball for some distance with a softer cover for more control. Alternatively, go for a three piece construction for a good combination of distance, control, and spin.
The Setup
Some free golf tips associated with the golf setup include the grip, stance, ball position, and address position. There are many types of grips but you should go with the one that is comfortable for you. Note: Hold your club tightly, don’t listen to some golf “gurus” that say you should hold the club loosely or just tight enough so that it doesn’t fly out of your hands!
The main thing to remember is that the palm of your left hand faces right and the palm of your right hand faces left towards the target. The thumb of your left hand points down the shaft and slightly to the right and your right thumb, on top of your left, points down the shaft and slightly to the left.
Your stance for a normal shot is all about being square and parallel. Line up your feet parallel to the target line with your feet facing slightly outwards. Your hips and shoulders should also be parallel to the target. With your arms straight, your elbows are slightly bent downwards, not outwards, keep your elbows tucked in.
Set yourself up the correct distance from the ball; not too far that you are reaching and not too close that you are crowding the ball. The correct golf ball position is in the middle of your stance for wedges and short irons; half way between center and your left heel for long irons; and opposite your left instep for the driver. Once you have taken a couple of practice swings, move into the address position, but don’t take to much time in the address position thinking about the shot - you will tire your arms and legs.
The Golf Swing
There are dozens of free golf tips that I could give you for the golf swing, but they are beyond the scope of a single article. Instead, I will give you the fundamental things to remember when you go to swing the club. Some are so obvious, but it is surprising how many people forget them when in the middle of a round of golf.
First, don’t listen to the advice of some golf “experts” that say you should relax when swinging a golf club. The golf swing is a relatively aggressive and physical exertion, so you can’t be relaxed. Neither should you be tensed up; you need to be like boxer just before he throws a punch.
To swing a golf club properly you need to be balanced. Keep the weight evenly balanced between the ball of your feet and your heel and slightly favoring the heels. Another thing that helps to keep your balance is by keeping your head as still as possible throughout the swing. Due to the physical forces of the golf swing, your head will move slightly but this is normal - just don’t jerk your head or you will never be balance.
Keep your eyes on the ball at all times during your swing. This includes the backswing, the downswing, and just after the impact position. Don’t try to follow the ball with your eyes the moment the club impacts the ball - keep your eyes on where the ball was until your head and eyes are forced round by the movement of the follow through.
Your golf swing speed should be consistent from the backswing all the way through to the follow through. Don’t make the mistake of starting your backswing slowly and then wanting to speed up the downswing to blast the ball into oblivion. We have all had that feeling, when we are poised to start our downswing, that we can hit the ball a mile. Resist the urge; a fluid and consistent speed will out hit anyone trying to hit the ball too hard.
I hope you will keep these free golf swing tips in mind the next time you are out on the course. Like I said, some are so obvious that you will be saying that you knew to keep your eyes on the ball or don’t hit the ball too hard, but believe me, when you focus on your game and you consciously remember to implement these tips, you will immediately see improvement in your game.

Learning how to play golf can be very difficult to say the least. If you have always wanted to learn how to play golf yourself, the basics that I am going to cover for you here will well and truly get you on your way to becoming a real keen and developed golfer.
First of all, if you’re planning on learning how to play golf, there are a few very important things I think any beginner needs to know before they start on the fun journey of learning how to play golf.
You should always plan ahead in your learning experience. What and how much do you currently know about golf? How much do you think you need to learn? What exactly would you like to know? What kind of learning environment suits you best? Do you have any friends or do you know anyone who has more experience than you at golf, who can teach you the basics? You should think about these questions before you begin to learn how to play golf.
If you’re a complete beginner and you’re not familiar with holding and swinging a club correctly, the first thing you should do is learn how to grip a club correctly and which way is best for you. You should also practice your swing a lot, so get your butt down the driving range. You can also rent clubs at your local driving range if you haven’t any clubs of your own. This will give you a good idea of what type of clubs would be best for you too. When learning how to play golf, this can help you in many ways.
Secondly you should always get on the course as soon as possible so you can get used with the setup of a golf course and get used to hitting out of and around obstacles. You can also learn the mentality and etiquette needed on the course to be a good humble golfer, which is the main characteristic of any golfer worth their salt.
Now, when you have become more confident with what is involved in the game of golf, you can then move onto the more advanced stages of learning how to play golf. You will soon notice that your swing is a not as natural as it could be, and when compared to those more experienced around you it could seem that you’re not in complete control of your swing and the club.
One of the biggest challengers for beginners is learning how to obtain control of the swing and the club so you can develop a smooth and natural feel, resulting in more consistent, longer shots. There are many mistakes that beginners need to overcome before they can call themselves seasoned golfers. One of the many mistakes I see with beginners is they tend to hold the club too hard. They think that it will somehow give them more distance and more control in their shots, in fact they couldn’t be more father from the truth.
Now, golfers tend to witness a lot of mistakes when they are learning how to play golf, and they often wish they had read up on and learned a lot more about golf before they started playing. Something I would recommend would be to invest in some training books, videos, magazines, and even training aids so that you can stay away from these mistakes and develop your golf game much faster. Only fools don’t learn by other peoples mistakes.

Whether you’re beginner to the sport or an avid golfer, when you get out on the course you want to do your best and enjoy the game. After all it’s supposed to be fun, right? Shooting a good game can be an exhilarating sense of accomplishment, while shooting a bad game can turn even the most beautiful day into a blood pressure raising, frustrating fiasco. However, a little insight may help to prevent you from getting “teed off” or having a “stroke” out on the fairway.

We’ve all heard, “practice makes perfect”, but that it not quite accurate. Actually, “perfect practice makes perfect”. If you’re practicing incorrectly, you are only hurting yourself and forming bad habits out on the green. If you practice a technique that is incorrect, how can you possibly improve? It is important to find out as much as you can on the basics of the game if you are to get better at it. The more you know and understand, the better your practice. Setting up is the first and most important part of golf. Without a proper setup, everything else will be for naught. It is the foundation of a good game.
The first part of a good set up is your stance. The right stance, proper posture and foot alignment, will help you maintain balance throughout your swing. Being well balanced will enable you to strike the ball with the center of the face of your club. A direct hit will give you better distance and more accurate direction. The right stance can clearly help you establish and maintain control of your game.

Isn’t what you’re looking for a consistent, reliable golf swing that you can count on at that first tee when everyone’s watching? People spend millions of dollars each year purchasing equipment and gadgets that promise them the perfect swing, when really they should be concentrating on the simple science behind a great golf swing.
The fundamentals of the golf swing are based on scientific facts such as center of gravity, power, thrust, consistency triangle and more.
If you take the tour players and break their swings down to the fundamentals; (like what happens at address, back swing, impact, and follow through), about 95 percent of what they’re doing is the same. Their swings look different, because each player’s swing has its own personality. But, fundamentally, their swings are very similar. They have to be, or they wouldn’t be playing on the tour.
We’ve taken the golf-swing fundamentals and made them easy to understand, without the technical mumbo jumbo.
Being a consistent ball striker or increasing your consistency on the golf course really begins with an understanding of the geometry of the golf swing and how to control it. I believe the golf swing is simple geometry and physics. Understanding this geometry and how the physics of the swinging motion tries to alter it is the key to becoming a consistent ball striker.
I was always taught that the triangle running across your chest to shoulders and down your arms to the grip of the golf club was the triangle you had to maintain in order to create or maintain consistency in your ball striking. What I’ve discovered through the Center of Gravity golf method is this described triangle does NOT control consistency in ball striking and actually impedes the natural flow of the golf swing by trying to consciously control it. The real consistency triangle you must maintain throughout the swinging process runs from your Center of Gravity, (Use your shirt button as a reference point), to the knuckles of your big toes, (where the bunions grow) and back to the golf ball. This triangle formed at the address position must be maintained through the impact position in order to create a consistent bottom or impact point to your swing. When your target hand is allowed to be the boss of the golf club, the bottom of your swing will always be where your center of gravity is.
You’re looking for results, and we’re going to put you on the right track to getting them. Incorporating these ideas into your swing easy but it will take time and practice. But as long as you’re working on the fundamentals, you’ll be working toward developing a consistently great golf swing.
